Music
We started January with a lesson on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The students learned facts about his life and listened to some of his compositions. Over the last couple of weeks, grades 4K-4 have been learning about the instruments of the orchestra and instrument families. Grades 5 and 6 are working on letter names for the notes on the staff and melodic direction.
Art
There have been many different types of projects going on in art this past month. We began by finishing up some left over holiday projects. 4K explored with puffy paints made of shaving cream and glue and sculpted snowmen with clay made of cornstarch and hand lotion. We are now in the process of finishing up our print projects in grades 3-6. Kindergarten has started a clay project. First and second grade are finishing up a watercolor snowflake project. In February, we will be studying about the painter, Jackson Pollock. I know the students will have a great time creating their own Jackson Pollock inspired paintings.
Phy Ed
The students are enjoying their time in the Community Center gym. Some of their favorite activities this past month were Capture the Kickball, Slider, and Santa's Sleigh Ride. Last week the students participated in the Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart event. Everyone had a great time jumping, skipping, and hooping.
Computers
We have several different projects being worked on in computers right now. First grade just finished using their keyboarding skills to create a classroom birthday list in a Word document. The second grade students are using their keyboarding and internet searching skills to create bookmarks in a Word document. Fourth grade is using their keyboarding and internet searching skills to do a learning hunt. Fifth grade is also using their keyboarding and internet searching skills to research their names and facts about people and events associated with their birth dates. Sixth grade is creating a class blog. We are hoping to publish our first post this afternoon. Third grade has now started working on the correct fingering for the top row and 4K and kindergarten has been working activities to help them find the letters on the keyboard. 4K and kindergarten have also been learning about internet safety.
