March - No Lions Here!
March proved to be a very quiet month here in 1st grade. We kept busy with learning the difference between fiction(fake) and nonfiction (not fake). We learned that fiction stories have the story elements; characters, setting, and plot and that nonfiction stories have topics, main ideas, and supporting details.
In phonics and spelling, we worked on some more vowel pairs, r-controlled vowels and compound words.
In math, we work on, of course, our addition and subtraction, as well as representing data and reading data on a graph, using comparison bars to solve compare story problems, and we are now beginning to learn to tell time.
If you need to know anything about Lent, ask a first grader. Each day during Lent, the students received a color/activity sheet with information about the life and passion of Jesus. We also watched a short informational video about Lent each day. We have also been reading stories about the life and teachings of Jesus during religion class.
In April, we are looking forward to the coming of our next Einstein kit, The Weather. We will also be studying geometry and measurement in math.
Below are some pictures of us working on our rainbow art project.
