After a very busy Catholic Schools' Week, we were finally able to get back into a somewhat normal schedule. "Back to the basics," as they say.
February found us working on many different long vowel spellings and contractions in phonics. We learned more about details, main ideas, and topics, as well as character feelings, sequence of events and graphic and text features in reading. We read a story about Dr. Seuss and are beginning a writing project about him. In math, we are continuing to learn even more addition and subtraction strategies and problem solving. In religion, we are learning about what Jesus taught the many people who followed Him and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.
Each day during Lent, we are completing a coloring/activity sheet (found at www.holyheroes.com) for each day of Lent and watching a "Lenten Adventure" video to learn more about the season of Lent. The students really look forward to this every day.
Of course, you know what they say about all work and no play! Our favorite February event was the Valentines's Cake Walk. This year students were able to Walk to win a cake, do a beanbag toss and pick suckers for various prizes, and get tattoos. At the end of the day, we joined the rest of the classes for the raffle drawing. Many prizes were won and everyone had a great time!
