We are off to a great start in Combined Arts. The students are excited about exploring and trying new things.
Music
In music class, we started off the year with a review of some of the basics like beat, rhythm, and instrument families. We are now working on ways to use our voice, differentiating the difference between beat and rhythm in the lower grades and identifying sections of a song in the upper grades. We have also, if you can believe it, started working on our Christmas program. This year we will be performing the musical "Fact or Fiction, the Christmas Edition."
Art
We started off the year in art again with each student drawing a self-portrait. Some of the students were amazed to see the improvement over last year's self-portraits.
In 4K, the students practiced the correct way to hold and use a scissors, how to make baby glue dots and how to make glue dust. To practice these skills, they made name mosaics. After completing their name mosaics, 4K made Q-tip pointillism fall trees.
Kindergarten also practiced the correct way to hold and use a scissors, how to make baby glue dots and how to make glue dust. To practice these skills they made wallpaper collages. The students are now working on a watercolor leaf.
First and 2nd grades are working on paper mache tiles made by using rubbing plates. We will be using acrylic paints to paint the tiles next week. They have also started a watercolor pumpkin project.
Third and 4th grades have been practicing 6 watercolor techniques that were demonstrated for them. They will be using these techniques to make a fall leaf project.
Fifth and 6th grades have also been practicing watercolor techniques. They will be using these techniques to make a glue-line, watercolor pumpkin project.
Phy Ed.
All the students have been working hard and having fun with the various activities we have been doing in phy ed. It seems that the harder I make them work, the more fun they have. Some of their favorites have been "Five Finger Fling", Hula Hoop Activities, "Treasure Hunters", and "Keep It Clean."
Computers
4K is learning the parts of the computer, how to turn the computer on, and how to use the mouse.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are working on finding the letters on the keyboard. They have also practiced using the mouse and the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Third through 6th grades are working on various levels of keyboarding. Third grade is working on the home row. Grades 4, 5, and 6, are practicing their keyboarding skills with the Typing Club. Sixth grade has also started learning keyboarding short cuts.
