Music
The students in 4K have been learning about the difference between beat and rhythm. They have also been introduced to the percussion instruments. They are very good at using these instruments to accompany songs by keeping the beat and playing rhythms. Kindergarten and 1st grade have been busy learning the different ways we use our voices and distinguishing the difference between a lullaby and a march. Second and third grade are learning about dynamics (forte, piano), and about the use of the fermata. Fourth and fifth grade watched a video series about percussion instruments and drumming. This week, we participated in our own drumming circle. I'm not quite sure they got the idea of a drumming circle, but they sure had fun exploring all the different instruments. The students in sixth grade are learning about the C major scale. They all had the chance to play the scale on a pitched percussion instrument. They also listened to and echoed rhythm patterns with quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes.

The students in 4K are finishing up a project using free form shapes, while the students in grades K-6 are finishing up their line projects. Next, we will be moving on to a unit on geometric and organic shapes.

4K - 2nd grade students have been working on their keyboarding skills (finding the letters on the keyboard) and learning the parts of a web page and using a web browser. We have talked about web pages, tabs, and the address bar. Grades 3 has been working on the home row keys and are now ready to move onto the top row. Grades 4 - 6 have been working on perfecting their keyboarding skills with their typing lessons and Typing Club. Next, we will be working on shortcuts and other functions of the keyboard.

We are nearing the end of our time in the Community Center gym. Next Friday will be our last time at the gym. After that we will be outside. Please make sure your child is prepared for the weather. You may want to send extra mittens, shoes, and socks for these days.
